Overview
With many people feeling overwhelmed with information in their day to day lives, Twitter wants to make your life a little easier with Twitter Daily.
Twitter Daily complies the best tweets of the day from your followers, mutuals and interests, so that you are up-to-date on all the conversations without hours of scrolling.
The alternative feed *that ends* gives you the option to lower your cognative load and take a little more time for yourself.
Preliminary research
Survey
The preliminary research consisted of a short survey that asked existing Twitter users about their behaviours on the platform.
The research showed that users generally use the platform to keep up to date on news and feel very overwhelmed by social media.

I also used the survey as an opportunity to explain the new feature and ask the existing users what they would want out of it.
The results revealed that users were very interested in the new function, and would potentially use Twitter more regularly.
User personas
From the survey results, I created two user personas that would find the most value out of the new feature.
Although having different priorities both are infrequent users of the platform.
The new feature will aim to increase their frequency on the app and make Twitter part of their daily routine.

User flow
I kept the user flow for this feature pretty simple, basing it on the introduction of Twitter’s new feature Spaces.
The flow focuses on educating the user on Twitter Daily and how it all works.

References
To keep the design consistent with Twitter's design patterns and UI, I used a number of reference images to build Twitter Daily.
Allowing the user to seamlessly understand and jump straight into the new feature.
These design patterns used references from all parts of the app including:
-
Introduction of Twitter Spaces
-
Search page
-
Twitter feed
-
Topics page
-
New tweet page
Through this research, and the virtue of sourcing a UI kit in the Figma community I was able to build the design patterns and layouts that matched the look and feel of the current app.

Design

Wireframes
I developed the wireframes that utilised the UI kit from the Figma community and reference images, particularly the way Twitter Spaces was introduced.
Mimicking these design patterns and layouts allowed me to create a seamless experience for the users.
Mid-fidelity design
The mid-fidelity design brings together the design systems in the reference images and the wireframe design to seamlessly integrate the new feature into the existing platform.

Testing & updates

User testing
I walked through the prototype with three existing Twitter users.
The test asked users to navigate to fulfil three tasks:
-
Navigate to their Twitter Daily news feed
-
Find their recommendations
-
Edit Twitter Daily settings
The users were generally really positive about the new function, only experiencing minor pain points along the way.

Priority updates
As there was a lot of positive feedback on the user testing, I kept the updates fairly simple.
The two main updates were:
-
Copy change in the Twitter Daily settings
-
Adding an end state for Twitter Daily

Learnings

This feature really resonated with a lot of people, lowering cognitive load can be a really impactful way of creating value for users.
A lot of consideration and care at the front end of the project can make a big difference in the way it is executed.
I really enjoyed readapting existing design patterns for a new feature to create a seamless experience.
Twitter is hilarious, I had a lot of fun with this project.
